Man Utd’s pre-season schedule in full as Red Devils head for Australia

Manchester United’s summer transfer window continues to bubble along as they struggle to secure their first signing ahead of next season, which has meant that there were not any new players present for the club’s first day back in pre-season on Monday.

Nonetheless, a deal for Frenkie de Jong edges closer, although it has been revealed that the Red Devils ‘rejected’ a request from Barcelona for Harry Maguire to be included as part of the deal. In other news, Cristiano Ronaldo has also turned down the opportunity to move to the MLS as his future is also in doubt following a lack of signings this month.

Barcelona’s Maguire request

As Manchester United continue in their attempts to get a deal over the line for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, it has since been revealed that the Red Devils have turned down the La Liga outfit’s request to include Harry Maguire as part of the deal.

The Sun claim Barcelona asked if they could sign the England international as part of the proposed deal for De Jong to move to Old Trafford this summer, although it was quickly shot down by United, who are keen to keep hold of the former Leicester man ahead of next season.

Maguire received plenty of criticism from fans and pundits alike during a poor campaign in the north west last season, as United finished sixth. The 29-year-old made 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice.

Ronaldo ‘rejects’ MLS offer

Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted his intentions to see out the final year of his Manchester United contract next season but following the club’s underwhelming start to the summer transfer window, he has raised doubts over United’s potential next season.

Reports emerged last week that the 37-year-old was concerned by the lack of new signings so far, and the latest reports have now revealed that the Portuguese international has turned down the offer to join David Beckham’s Inter Miami in the MLS.

The Star state United legend Beckham had explored the chances of his MLS club luring Ronaldo to the United States this summer in a bid to boost the team’s performance and brand, although the forward has rejected those advances.

Lingard on for Hammers reunion

Jesse Lingard will depart Manchester United at the end of the month when his current contract expires with the Red Devils, and after much debate over where he will end up next, West Ham United are looking to swoop for the midfielder this summer.

Lingard enjoyed a highly successful loan spell with the Hammers in the second half of the 2020-21 campaign and David Moyes is keen on a reunion with the 29-year-old, who is thought to be interested in securing a move back to east London.

BBC Sport have suggested that the Hammers have tabled an offer to bring Lingard back to the club on a permanent basis, although the England international is set to mull over his options. Newcastle have also been linked with the midfielder, but were put off by his high wage demands.
