Couple lose 27st after Valentine’s Day pledge to beat bulge and health issues
Kieron Buxton, 50, and wife Helen, 51, vowed to get into shape to beat health problems after gorging on fried breakfasts, biscuits, takeaways and beer
A pair of super-slimmers have shed a whopping 27 stone between them after making a heart-felt pledge on Valentine’s Day.
Kieron Buxton, 50, and wife Helen, 51, vowed to get into shape to beat health problems.
The couple, who have been married for 16 years, used to gorge on fried breakfasts, biscuits, takeaways and beer.
Mental health charity worker Kieron was almost 30st and was so big he could not even put his own socks on.
He and Helen, who weighed almost 18.5st, decided to get healthy after Kieron was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
The pair, from Nottingham, joined Slimming World on February 14, 2020, just weeks before lockdown and have since shed 27st 8lb – the equivalent of a baby elephant.
Now they have been named Slimming World’s couple of the year.
Since losing 19.7st, Kieron has even reversed his diabetes.
He said: “Being inactive, wearing 5XL shirts and asking for seatbelt extenders was just normal life for me.
“I knew that Type 2 diabetes was often weight-related, so it was a big wake-up call for me.”
Helen lost 8st and went from a size 26 to a 12 and saw her rheumatoid arthritis improve.
She said: “The difference in our lives really is amazing – it’s like the whole world has opened up. For us, life really has begun at 50.”
