What to watch before Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

The first Marvel film of Phase 5 is set to debut this month. Paul Rudd is back as Scott Lang/Ant-Man in his third solo movie, and this time the stakes are higher than ever.
He will once again venture into the Quantum Realm, along with Hope van Dyne, Hank Pym, Janet van Dyne and his daughter, Cassie. However, there he comes face-to-face with Kang, the new ‘Thanos’ of the MCU.
If you want to watch Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, you will need to be clued up on some movies and Disney+ series within the Marvel world. This is so you can understand who all the characters are, and some of the plot points that will be referenced.
Here is what you need to watch before Ant-Man 3 releases. You can also check out our ultimate guide on how to watch all the Marvel films and TV shows in order.
Which Marvel movies and TV shows should I watch to understand Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania?
In chronological order, here are the films and series you should check out in the MCU before you head to the cinema for Ant-Man 3:
- Ant-Man (2015)
- Captain America: Civil War (2016)
- Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
- Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
- Avengers: Endgame (2019)
- Loki – Episode Six (2021)
Scott Lang appears in four of the things on this list. Obviously, he is the main character in the two Ant-Man films, which charts his origin story and his relationship with his family. These films also go into detail about the Quantum Realm, a crucial plot point in Ant-Man 3.
Ant-Man also makes appearances in two ensemble films, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Endgame. The former shows his relationship with the other Avengers, whilst the latter explores the concept of time travel through the Quantum Realm.
This movie also shows how his daughter Cassie aged up during the blip (though she is played by a different actress in this film to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania). Scott Lang doesn’t appear in Avengers: Infinity War, but this film is necessary viewing in order to understand Avengers: Endgame properly.
The last entry on the list, episode six of Loki, is the introduction of the villain, Kang. This episode explains who Kang is exactly, and why he is so important within the context of the multiverse.
You could just watch the final episode of Loki, but we do recommend checking out the entire series if you have time, as it is one of the best MCU TV originals so far.
