After a couple of unusual summers over the last few years, we are so ready to jet off on a plane to sunnier climes.

However, we’re not looking forward to the stress of packing – and the cost of taking checked bags, as with everything else in life, the price for this seems to be rising.

Most airlines, especially budget airlines, will only allow you to take one piece of carry-on luggage on the plane with you, free of charge. This must fit under the seat in front of you, and if not, you could be facing additional charges, which nobody wants.

Thankfully, there are a number of people out there who have shared nifty packing hacks on social media that could help cut luggage costs.

A TikTok user named @sideofsequins recently suggested using compression bags to save a lot of space, because it will make your clothes tinier than ever.

In a video she showed how she managed to pack clothes for nine days in her carry-on luggage – and here we are struggling to pack nine days into our 24kg allowance. But, that will hopefully all change now.

You just need to simply pop your clothes in the bag, roll out the excess air, and get packing! There’s no pump needed, which makes your life a lot easier when you’re trying to re-pack at the other side.

A similar impact could be achieved with vacuum bags and bam you might have just saved yourself around £150 in carry-on luggage fees.

If you’re all about the money-saving life, you could also try stuffing a travel pillow full of underwear, swimwear and smaller bits.

Make sure to get a pillow with a zipper so you can stuff your stuff in easily, or be brazen and use an actual pillow.

Rolling your clothes can give you way more space – and it means that your clothes won’t be creased when you arrive at your destination (Stock Image)

Rolling your clothes, rather than folding them can give you a surprising amount of extra space too. And, your clothes will be a lot less creased than if you fold them, so you definitely won’t be needing to borrow an iron from reception in the hotel.

If you don’t want to be as sly as that though, maybe a packing cube could be what you’re looking for.

Packing cubes are not only great for organising your suitcase but are also key to saving space as they compress your clothes.

Another TikTok user named @Scorpionbabygirl has shown how she managed to compress eight months’ worth of clothes into one!

To reduce the size of something, you can also use bin bags and vacuum cleaners. You’ll obviously need to get hold of a vacuum to re-pack at the other side though!

For this quick and easy tip, all you need to do is put the oversized items in a bin bag and wrap the bag around the nozzle of your hoover.

The hoover will remove all of the air – reducing the size by up to four times. This may be the difference between just taking on carry-on luggage, or having to pay for a checked-in bag.
