ACE AC athletes rose to the challenge with some superb results as beautiful Bellurgan Park staged day one of the Louth Cross-Country Championships on Sunday.
he weather was lovely and both Niamh Lynch and Sophie Black ran superbly in the girls U10 800m. There was a super performance too by Ruairi Cooney, coming home in sixth place even though he was running out of age in the Boys U10 800m.
Niamh Faulkner did well in the Girls U12 2,000m, while Nathan Robertson and Tayo Lawrence both ran fantastically to place seventh and ninth in the Boys U12 race.
In the Girls U14 3,000m Chloe Cooney showed her strength to come out on top in a fierce sprint finish to take gold. Together with Kate O’Donnell and Lauren Faulkner they secured the club’s first team medal of the day.
There were great performances too from Liam Lynch and Luca McLoughlin in the Boys U14 3k and Daniel Hanley really showed his strength to remain in contention throughout.
There were stellar performances from the U16 girls, with Eimear Cooney taking silver and Sholah Lawrence bronze. Together with Chloe Hanley they secured another excellent team gold for Ace.
The Boys U16 4,000m was dominated by an epic battle for gold between Shea O’Donnell and Lorcan Forde Dunne. Shea edged ahead on the last lap, but his teammates Lorcan, Niall Murray, Fergus Nolan and Rhys Clarke poured in behind him to claim another team gold for Ace.
There were more great performances in the Girls U18 4k where Eabha Cosgrove took bronze and was followed closely by Meadhbh Nolan in fourth.
Last but not least, Neil Culhane and Danny Nugent (of Ireland’s Fittest Family fame) produced great runs as they came home first and fourth in the U18 6k.
